Rezi comes down to a structured resume, two or three templates exported as PDF and DOCX, a score computed from written-down rules, and an LLM that rewrites bullets toward a job post. An agent builds that for one person in a sitting, with Playwright for PDF and the docx library for Word. What a home-built version can't offer is proof: a score you wrote has never been compared with how real hiring software reads a file, so treat it as a lint. The mobile app, autofill extension and human review are separate products.
Before you buildRezi Free keeps one resume and three PDF downloads. For a single application round that may be enough, so check it before building.
Build me a resume builder with a rules-based lint and keyword tailoring to replace Rezi. Requirements:
- Node.js 22 + TypeScript: a Fastify API and a React UI built with Vite. `npm start` serves
http://localhost:5200.
- Storage: better-sqlite3 in ./data/resumes.db: one master profile in JSON Resume shape (basics,
work with bullets, education, skills) and resume versions copied from it, each optionally linked
to a pasted job post. Nothing is written outside ./data.
- Editor: a form per section with reorderable bullets and a live preview in two single-column
templates (plain and compact) made from HTML and CSS: real text, standard headings
(Experience, Education, Skills), no tables, icons or images.
- Export: PDF through Playwright `page.pdf()` and DOCX through `docx`, both from the same data.
A test parses the PDF with `pdf-parse` and checks that every bullet appears, in order.
- Lint score, computed in code and not by the LLM: 0-100 from named checks, each shown with the
line it fails: contact details present, standard headings, one date format, bullets starting
with a verb from a list in ./config/verbs.txt, share of bullets with a number, bullets longer
than two lines, weak phrases ("responsible for", "helped with"), one or two pages. The UI says
it is a lint, not a check against any real applicant tracking system.
- Keywords: paste a job post; the LLM returns its top 25 skills and phrases as JSON (validated
with `zod`); the app matches them against the version with `natural` stemming and shows found,
missing and a coverage percentage computed in code.
- Tailoring: for chosen bullets the LLM proposes rewrites toward the missing keywords; show a diff
and let me accept or reject each. Never add employers, titles, dates, tools or numbers that are
not in the master profile: reject any rewrite containing a number absent from the original bullet.
- LLM from .env: ANTHROPIC_API_KEY, OPENAI_API_KEY or OLLAMA_URL. Single user. No accounts, no
telemetry, local-first; the only outbound call is to your LLM, and the README says what is sent.
- Out of scope: job search, an autofill extension, AI interview practice, human review, a mobile app.
- README: setup, model choice, rough cost of one tailoring run, and backups (copy ./data).Opens your agent with the prompt filled in, you press enter. Or copy it and paste it into an empty folder.
The first prompt builds the core. Run these one at a time in the same folder to grow it into your own Rezi.
Add a resume importer to the resume builder in this folder. Requirements: - Accept a .docx (`mammoth`), a .pdf (`pdf-parse`) or pasted text, and extract plain text. - Send the text to the configured LLM and ask for the JSON Resume shape; validate it with `zod` and retry once on invalid output. - Show a side-by-side preview of the original text and the parsed profile; nothing is saved until I click Accept, and unparsed lines are listed. - Never let the model add information: after parsing, flag any date, number or company name that does not appear in the source text. - Update the README with the file types supported and what is sent to the LLM.
Add cover letters to the resume builder in this folder. Requirements: - From a resume version linked to a job post, draft a letter of at most 250 words with the LLM, using only facts present in that version; list the facts it used under the draft. - Edit the letter in a text area, regenerate one paragraph at a time, and keep every draft. - Export to PDF with Playwright and to DOCX with `docx`, using the same header as the resume. - Reject a draft that mentions a company, title or number not in the resume or the job post. - Update the README.
Add an application tracker to the resume builder in this folder. Requirements: - A table of applications: company, role, link, date, the resume version used, status (applied, interviewing, offer, rejected) and notes, stored in the same SQLite file. - Exporting a version's PDF offers to log an application for it, with the job post prefilled. - A board view by status and a table view with filters; moving a card updates the date. - A CSV export of every application. - Update the README.
A job search means tailoring one resume to many posts, and Rezi puts the checks, the rewrite and the export in one place, with a score that says when to stop polishing. For someone who just wants the resume done this month, $29 is a small price next to assembling the pieces.
Estimate · Tailoring one resume costs cents through an API, or nothing with a local model. Everything else is free software on your machine. The build is token usage on your agent plan.
