Teal+ comes down to a job tracker, a structured resume, keyword matching against a job post and an LLM that rewrites bullets and drafts cover letters. Each piece is small, and an agent wires them together in one sitting on SQLite and a local web page, with PDF export through a headless browser. What you give up is the Chrome extension that saves jobs from many boards in one click, and the template polish. A job search lasts weeks, so the honest comparison is one afternoon of building against one or two 30-day periods of Teal+.
Before you buildTeal's free plan already gives unlimited resumes and job tracking. Teal+ mainly adds unlimited AI writing and the full keyword match.
Build me a job search workspace to replace Teal+. Requirements: - Node.js 22 + TypeScript: a Fastify API and a React front end built with Vite. `npm start` serves everything on http://localhost:5100. - Storage: better-sqlite3 in ./data/jobs.db. One master resume as JSON (contact, summary, jobs with bullets, education, skills); tailored copies are separate rows linked to a job. - Job tracker: paste a URL or the posting text and save company, title, location, salary, link, notes and dates. A kanban by stage (Bookmarked, Applied, Interviewing, Offer, Rejected) and a table view with filters. - Keyword match: the LLM pulls the top 25 skills and phrases from the posting; the app shows which ones my resume already has and a 0-100 coverage score computed in code, not by the LLM. - Tailoring: rewrite chosen bullets toward the posting, write a 3-sentence summary and a cover letter, show a diff, and let me accept or reject each change. Never invent employers, titles, dates or numbers that are not in the master resume. - LLM from .env: ANTHROPIC_API_KEY, OPENAI_API_KEY or an OLLAMA_URL. - PDF export through Playwright from two plain single-column HTML templates that applicant tracking systems can parse; exporting moves the job to Applied. - Single user. No accounts, no telemetry, local-first. - Out of scope: a browser extension, auto-applying, scraping job boards. - README: setup, model choice, rough cost per tailoring, and backups.
Opens your agent with the prompt filled in, you press enter. Or copy it and paste it into an empty folder.
The first prompt builds the core. Run these one at a time in the same folder to grow it into your own Teal+.
Add a Chrome extension (Manifest V3) to the job workspace in this folder. Requirements: - A toolbar button sends the current tab's URL, title and selected text (or the page's main text if nothing is selected) to the local server on http://localhost:5100 with a token stored in .env. - The server creates a Bookmarked job and asks the LLM to fill company, title, location and salary from the text; I can correct them afterwards. - Show a small confirmation with a link to the job. - Update the README with how to load the unpacked extension.
Add a Teal importer to the job workspace in this folder. Requirements: - A command that takes the file from Teal's Job Tracker > Export Report. - Read the header row, map company, title, status, dates and link to job fields, print the mapping and ask before writing. - Map Teal stages to mine and list any it could not map. - Running it twice must not create duplicates (match on company + title + link). - Update the README.
Add follow-up reminders to the job workspace in this folder. Requirements: - A setting for days to wait per stage (default: 7 after Applied, 2 after an interview). - A Today page listing jobs that are due a follow-up, with a draft email from a template per stage that I can edit and copy. - Marking a follow-up done logs it on the job's timeline. - Out of scope: sending email from the app. - Update the README.
Add interview prep to the job workspace in this folder. Requirements: - For a job, generate 12 likely questions from the posting and my tailored resume, split into behavioral, technical and about-the-company. - Let me write answers and save them to a question bank tagged by skill, so answers can be reused across jobs. - A practice mode that shows one question at a time with a timer. - Update the README.
Job hunting is stressful and time-boxed, so people pay for a month of something that works today rather than build anything. The draw is unlimited AI rewriting and the full keyword match, on top of a tracker they already filled on the free plan.
Estimate · Tailoring one resume and cover letter costs cents through an API, or nothing with a local model. The build is token usage on your agent plan.
