Remote sells legal presence. Its employer-of-record service employs people through Remote's own companies in 90+ countries and carries payroll, benefits and compliance liability, and the contractor plans sit on payment rails and indemnity cover in 190+ countries. None of that comes out of a coding session. What you can build is the paperwork for a few contractors: records, invoices, approvals and a year-end tax summary, which is all the $29 plan really adds.
Before you buildRemote has no free plan. If you pay only one or two contractors, their invoices and a bank transfer may already cover it.
Build me a contractor desk to replace Remote's Contractor Management plan for a company paying a few freelancers abroad. Requirements: - Node.js 22 + TypeScript: a Hono API and a React (Vite) front end on http://127.0.0.1:4960, with better-sqlite3 at ./data/desk.db and uploaded files in ./data/files/. - Contractors: name, country, tax residence, currency, rate type (fixed monthly, hourly), start and end dates, status, and the date their tax form (W-8BEN, W-9 or local equivalent) expires. - Contracts: fill a Markdown template from ./templates/ with the contractor's data, render it to PDF with Playwright, and store the signed copy I upload together with its SHA-256 hash. - Invoices: on the 1st create a draft for every fixed-rate contractor; I add hourly ones by hand. Each invoice can be approved, rejected with a note or marked paid with a payment date. - Payments: "Export payment batch" writes a CSV of approved invoices (name, IBAN or account reference, currency, amount, reference) for my bank's bulk-upload tool. The app never moves money. - Reminders: list tax forms that expire within 30 days and contractors whose contract ends within 60 days on the home page. - Year end: per contractor, total paid per currency for the calendar year as CSV and as a PDF statement. State on the PDF that it is not an official 1099-NEC. - No accounts, no telemetry, local-first; bind to 127.0.0.1 only. - Out of scope: employing anyone (EOR), payroll, indemnity, filing taxes, and deciding whether someone counts as a contractor under local law. - README: backups of ./data, how to add a contract template, and a warning that misclassification risk and tax filing stay with me.
Opens your agent with the prompt filled in, you press enter. Or copy it and paste it into an empty folder.
The first prompt builds the core. Run these one at a time in the same folder to grow it into your own Remote.
Add a calendar feed to the contractor desk in this folder. Requirements: - Serve an .ics file at http://127.0.0.1:4960/calendar.ics with one all-day event per contract end date and tax-form expiry. - Add a 14-day alert to every event. - Regenerate the feed when a contractor is edited. - Bind to 127.0.0.1 only; no accounts. - Update the README with how to subscribe from Apple Calendar and Google Calendar.
Add an inbox importer to the contractor desk in this folder. Requirements: - Read a dedicated IMAP mailbox (IMAP_HOST, IMAP_USER, IMAP_PASSWORD in .env) with imapflow. - For each PDF attachment from a known contractor address, create a draft invoice and attach the PDF. - Never approve anything automatically; drafts wait for me. - Mark processed messages with a flag and skip them next time. - Update the README with the mailbox setup.
Add a spend page to the contractor desk in this folder. Requirements: - Show paid invoices per month and currency as a table and a bar chart (Chart.js). - Convert totals to a base currency (BASE_CURRENCY in .env) with the free Frankfurter API, cached in SQLite per day. - Mark any amount that used a rate older than 7 days. - Update the README with the data source and its limits.
Add one-time upload links to the contractor desk in this folder. Requirements: - Generate a link valid for 7 days per contractor that only allows uploading a tax form PDF (max 5 MB). - Show the link on the contractor page; a used link is disabled. - Run it on a separate port that is off by default (ENABLE_UPLOAD=true). - Update the README with a warning about exposing the port to the internet.
A company with no entity in the contractor's country gets contracts, payments and legal cover from one vendor, and the EOR product lets it hire a full-time employee abroad without opening a local subsidiary. Remote also stresses that it owns its entities rather than reselling partners.
Estimate · The app runs locally for free. Bank transfer fees depend on your bank. The build is token usage on your agent plan.

Not really. A company with no entity in the contractor's country gets contracts, payments and legal cover from one vendor, and the EOR product lets it hire a full-time employee abroad without opening a local subsidiary. Remote also stresses that it owns its entities rather than reselling partners. The prompt on this page builds the closest honest substitute.
About $29 a month on the Contractor Management plan per seat, $348 a year (checked 2026-10-15).
Employing anyone abroad (EOR) or running local payroll; Indemnity and misclassification cover; Payments in 190+ countries and currencies with compliance screening; Localized contract templates kept current by Remote's lawyers; Tax form handling such as 1099-NEC filing support. If any of those matter to you, keep paying.
