The Operations slice, a GPS time clock, a shift grid and checklists, is a small business app that an agent can build as an installable web app in a weekend for a crew of a few people. The gaps are the ones a phone-first product lives on: reliable push notifications (iOS only for home-screen web apps), position checks that work in the background, offline clock-ins, payroll hooks and labour-law rules on breaks and overtime. Chat, training courses, documents and the whole HR hub are separate builds.
Before you buildConnecteam is free for up to 10 users on its Small Business plan, with all hubs. If your crew is that small, you may not need to pay or build.
Build me a small-crew time clock and shift planner to replace Connecteam. Requirements: - Node.js 22 + TypeScript: Fastify with SQLite (`better-sqlite3`, ./data/crew.db) and a React + Vite PWA served by the same process. `npm start` builds and serves http://localhost:4880. The PWA is installable on phones (manifest and service worker). - Users: one owner (password) and up to 30 employees, each with a 6-digit PIN hashed with argon2 and rate limited. - Time clock: a big Clock in / Clock out button and an optional break. Clock-in sends the phone's position (Geolocation API); the server stores it and flags the entry when it is more than JOB_RADIUS_M (default 150 m) from the job site. Jobs have a client, address and latitude/longitude and are picked when clocking in. Every edit the owner makes to a time entry is kept in an audit log. - Shifts: a weekly grid by employee and job; drag to create and move shifts; open shifts employees can claim; repeat weekly; a Publish button that notifies people. Reject overlapping shifts for one employee. - Notifications: Web Push with `web-push` (VAPID keys generated into .env) for new or changed shifts and for "you haven't clocked in", with SMTP email as a fallback. - Checklists: the owner builds forms (text, yes/no, number, photo); employees fill them in on a job. Photos go to ./data/uploads, resized with `sharp`. - Timesheets: per employee and pay period (weekly or semi-monthly, from settings): total hours, overtime above a weekly threshold from settings, CSV and PDF export (`pdfkit`). - No third-party accounts, no telemetry, local-first. It needs HTTPS for geolocation and push: run it behind a tunnel or a small VPS. - Out of scope: payroll calculation, labour-law rules (breaks and overtime differ by country), chat, training courses, e-signed documents, native apps. - README: setting up HTTPS, adding the PWA to an iPhone home screen (iOS only allows push for installed web apps), and a warning that the owner must check overtime and break rules for their country.
Opens your agent with the prompt filled in, you press enter. Or copy it and paste it into an empty folder.
The first prompt builds the core. Run these one at a time in the same folder to grow it into your own Connecteam.
Extend the crew app in this folder. Requirements: - Employees request a day or range with a type (vacation, sick, unpaid) and a note; the owner approves or rejects with a comment, and the shift grid shows approved time off as blocked. - A balance per employee and type with a yearly allowance set in settings; approved days reduce it. - Push and email notifications for new requests and decisions. - A calendar page showing who is off when. - Update the README.
Add shift swaps to the crew app in this folder. Requirements: - An employee offers a shift to everyone or to one colleague; the other accepts, and the owner approves unless AUTO_APPROVE_SWAPS is true in .env. - Reject a swap that creates an overlap or pushes a colleague above their weekly hour cap from settings. - Notify both people and the owner by push and email; keep a history of swaps per shift. - Update the README.
Make clocking work offline in the crew app in this folder. Requirements: - Queue clock in, clock out and break events in IndexedDB with the phone's timestamp and position when the network is down. - Sync them when the connection returns; the server stores both the device time and the server receipt time and flags entries that differ by more than 10 minutes. - Show a banner with the number of unsynced events. - Update the README.
Hourly staff need one app on their own phones with notifications that arrive and punches the manager can trust. Connecteam sells that reliability, the payroll connections and the chance to add chat and training in the same app as the team grows.
Estimate · A small VPS runs about $5 a month and SMTP fits free tiers at this volume. The build is token usage on your agent plan.
