For one person, NocoDB is a typed table with a grid, form, kanban and gallery view, filters, CSV in and out, and an API. An agent builds that on SQLite in a sitting, and the Airtable entry here shows the pattern holds. The cloud plans mostly sell hosting, seats and record quotas. Since January 2026 NocoDB's own code sits under a Sustainable Use License that allows free self-hosting for personal or internal business use, so the shortest route may be to run the Community edition rather than write your own. Build only if you want the code to be yours and small.
Before you buildNocoDB Free covers 3 editors and 1,000 records per workspace, which fits a small list but not much else. The self-hosted Community edition has no record cap and is free for personal or internal business use.
Build me a personal spreadsheet-database to replace NocoDB Cloud. Requirements: - Node.js 22 + TypeScript: a Fastify API and a React front end built with Vite. `npm start` serves http://127.0.0.1:4860 only. - Storage: better-sqlite3 in ./data/base.db. Each user table is a real SQLite table. A meta table records field types (text, long text, number, checkbox, date, single select, multi select, link to another table, URL, attachment path), view definitions and column order. Linked records use a join table. Every schema change runs in a transaction and copies the database file to ./data/backups/ first. - Views per table: grid (inline editing, resize and hide columns, frozen first column, expanded row), form (opened by a share token, submissions create rows), kanban grouped by a select field and gallery with a cover attachment. Each view keeps its own filters, sorts and groups. - Grid: virtualized with `@tanstack/react-virtual`, filter operators per field type, up to three sorts, paste from a spreadsheet, and undo for the last 50 edits. - Import and export: CSV and XLSX import (`papaparse`, `exceljs`) with type guessing and a preview step; CSV, JSON and XLSX export of a table or a filtered view. - API: a REST endpoint per table (list with filter and sort parameters, get, create, update, delete) behind Bearer tokens made on a settings page, and an OpenAPI document generated from the metadata at /api/docs. - Attach mode: set DATABASE_FILE in .env to an existing SQLite file and the app lists its tables, infers field types from the schema and writes only to tables I mark editable. - Single user. No accounts, no telemetry, local-first. One password in .env protects the UI and API tokens protect /api. - Out of scope: real-time collaboration, row-level permissions, automations and webhooks, interface pages, SSO, MySQL and Postgres. - README: setup, the .env keys, backing up ./data, a warning that shared forms need a tunnel to be reachable from outside, and a list of NocoDB features this does not cover.
Opens your agent with the prompt filled in, you press enter. Or copy it and paste it into an empty folder.
The first prompt builds the core. Run these one at a time in the same folder to grow it into your own NocoDB Cloud.
Add a NocoDB importer to the spreadsheet-database in this folder. Requirements: - A command `base import-nocodb <folder>` that reads one CSV per table, named after the table. - Guess field types from the data (dates, numbers, checkboxes, single and multi select from low- cardinality columns) and print the guesses for each column before writing anything. - Link columns exported as text become link fields when every value matches a row in another imported table's first column; report the ones that do not match. - `--dry-run` is the default; `--apply` creates the tables. Running it twice must not duplicate rows. - Update the README with the export steps.
Add computed fields to the spreadsheet-database in this folder. Requirements: - A formula field type with a small expression language (arithmetic, IF, CONCAT, DATEDIFF, ROUND and references to other fields), parsed and evaluated in SQL, not in the browser. - A rollup field type on a link: count, sum, min, max or average of a field in the linked rows. - Recompute dependants when a source cell changes, detect circular references on save, and show a readable error in the cell when a formula fails. - Update the README with the formula reference.
Add webhooks to the spreadsheet-database in this folder. Requirements: - Per table, a list of webhook URLs with a trigger (row created, updated, deleted) and an optional filter using the same filter syntax as views. - Deliver a JSON payload with the old and new values, signed with an HMAC header; retry up to 5 times with growing delays and show the last delivery status per webhook. - Refuse URLs that resolve to private addresses unless ALLOW_PRIVATE_WEBHOOKS=true is set. - Update the README.
Teams want an Airtable-like workspace without Airtable's price, or a friendly layer over their own SQL database, and don't want to run servers. The cloud plans remove the Docker, backup and upgrade work and add seats and quotas the plans track for you.
Estimate · Runs on your own machine for nothing. A $5 VPS is only needed if shared forms or the API must be reachable from outside. The build is token usage on your agent plan.

Yes. An AI coding agent such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor can build a usable personal version in one session with the prompt on this page, running on your own machine.
About $15 a month on the Plus plan per seat, $180 a year (checked 2026-10-19).
