SE Ranking sells data you can't collect from a laptop: keyword volumes and difficulty from a large keyword database, a backlink index from its own crawler, competitor traffic estimates, and daily result snapshots for thousands of keywords across locations. A weekend project can track a few dozen keywords through a SERP API, pull your own Search Console numbers and crawl one site for errors, and that slice is worth building if it is all you use. Everything about other people's sites has no DIY path, so the prompt below covers the owned-sites slice, not the whole product.
Before you buildSE Ranking has no free plan, only a 14-day trial. Search Console and Ahrefs Webmaster Tools are free for the sites you own.
Build me a self-hosted SEO monitor for my own sites, covering the part of SE Ranking that I can collect myself. Requirements: - Python 3.12: a `seo` command (`typer`) that cron runs daily, history in SQLite at ./data/seo.db (standard-library `sqlite3`), and a static report in ./report/ made with Jinja2 and a local copy of Chart.js, not a CDN. - Config in ./sites.yml: per site its domain, its keywords (each with a country and a language) and up to 5 competitor domains to compare. Secrets live in .env. - Rank tracking: once a day per keyword and country, query Serper.dev (SERPER_API_KEY) or DataForSEO (chosen with SERP_PROVIDER). Store the position of each tracked domain in the top 100, the ranking URL and the SERP features returned. Never scrape Google directly. - Search Console: pull clicks, impressions, CTR and position per query and page for the last 90 days through the API with a service account (`google-api-python-client`). - Site audit: crawl each site with `httpx` and `selectolax`, at most 2,000 pages and 2 requests a second, obeying robots.txt. Report 4xx and 5xx links, redirect chains over 2 hops, missing or duplicate titles and meta descriptions, missing canonical tags and images without alt text. - Report: a ranking chart per keyword with the competitors, winners and losers since last week, and audit errors sorted by affected pages. Send a plain-text email (`smtplib`) when a keyword moves more than 5 places. - Single user. No accounts, no telemetry, local-first: only the SERP API, Search Console and your own sites are contacted. - Out of scope: keyword volumes and difficulty, backlinks, traffic estimates for other sites, AI answer tracking, client logins, white-label PDFs. - README: the cron line, the SERP API cost for your keyword count, the Search Console service-account steps (budget 30 minutes for the Google Cloud console) and what this can't tell you.
Opens your agent with the prompt filled in, you press enter. Or copy it and paste it into an empty folder.
The first prompt builds the core. Run these one at a time in the same folder to grow it into your own SE Ranking.
Add an importer to the SEO monitor in this folder. Requirements: - `seo import-seranking <file.csv> --site <domain>` reads a Rank Tracker CSV export (keyword, search engine, location, date and position columns) and loads it into the history table. - Map the columns by header name, ask when a header is missing, skip rows older than the first existing record for the same keyword and day, and make a second run change nothing. - Print how many rows were added, skipped and rejected. - Update the README with the SE Ranking export steps.
Add a weekly digest to the SEO monitor in this folder. Requirements: - Every Monday, send one email per site: the 10 biggest rank gains and losses, new audit errors since last week, Search Console clicks against the previous week and a link to the report. - Skip the email when nothing changed more than a configurable threshold in .env. - Keep a sent-log in SQLite so a rerun never sends twice. - Update the README with the cron line.
Add AI citation tracking to the SEO monitor in this folder. Requirements: - Read up to 20 questions per site from sites.yml and ask each once a week through an API that returns cited sources (for example Perplexity's Sonar API, key in .env). - Store the answer text, the cited URLs and whether the site or a competitor was cited. - Chart citation share per question over time in the report and flag questions where a competitor appeared and the site did not. - Print the expected API cost before the first run. Update the README.
Agencies and in-house teams get rank tracking, audits, backlinks and AI visibility behind one login, with client seats and white-label reports for the people who resell it. The data is the product: nobody builds a backlink index to save €109.
Estimate · Search Console and the crawler cost nothing. Daily checks for a few dozen keywords on a SERP API run a few dollars a month. Backlink or volume data needs a paid API on top.
| Plan | Monthly | Annual, per month | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core | $122.35 | $97.88 | 10 projects, 1 manager seat, 2,000 tracked keywords with daily checks, 100 GEO prompts, 250k audit pages, 6 months of history, 50k-row exports, 25K API credits a month. |

No free plan; a 14-day trial with no card, capped at 10 projects, 750 tracked keywords a day and 20 AI prompts a day.
Not really. Agencies and in-house teams get rank tracking, audits, backlinks and AI visibility behind one login, with client seats and white-label reports for the people who resell it. The data is the product: nobody builds a backlink index to save €109. The prompt on this page builds the closest honest substitute.
About $122.35 a month on the Core plan, $1,468.20 a year (checked 2026-10-19).
Keyword volumes, difficulty and a keyword database you didn't have to build; Backlink research and competitor traffic estimates for any domain; Tracking across locations and AI answer engines at a scale a laptop can't match; Client seats, white-label reports and the agency pack; A hosted site-audit crawler with room for 250k pages on Core and 2M on Growth. If any of those matter to you, keep paying.
